The Head of Department is Doctor of Political Science, Professor Valery Alekseevich Achkasov.

Professor Valery Alekseevich Achkasov is one of the leading experts in Ethnic Politics. Prof. Achkasov has more than 200 scientific publications (4 monographs and 8 textbooks and teaching manuals).

The department of the international political processes of philosophical faculty was established in September, 2002. Since that time more than hundred and fifty experts in the field of the political science, more than seventy undergraduates, including thirty foreign students were graduated. Since 2009 the department works as a part of faculty of Political Science of the St.Petersburg State University.
